- **Your own AI** — Pro · off by default

# On this phone by default. Your own AI if you choose.

By default, Spenti reads your receipts and answers your spending questions on your phone. On Pro, you can hand that reading to an AI you already use, such as Gemini, ChatGPT or Claude. It goes straight from your phone to that service, under your own account. Nothing goes to Spenti, either way.

§ 01

## What it is

Your own AI is a Pro option, and it is off until you turn it on. The setting has two choices: **On this phone**, the default, which is private, works offline and uses the downloaded reader and chat; and **Your own AI**, where the service you connect reads receipt text and answers chat.

Spenti offers it at the two moments the on-device models would otherwise download: the receipt-reader sheet and the chat set-up card. It is never offered during first run. Change it any time under Settings › Scanning & AI › AI.

Before anything is sent, a consent sheet asks “Send receipts to Gemini?” (or whichever service you picked) and spells out what goes, where it goes, what stays and how to stop. It opens with whose rules apply: you picked the service, so its privacy policy, not Spenti’s, decides how your receipts are kept and used there, with a link to that policy. You choose **Allow and connect** or **Keep it on this phone**.

§ 02

## The providers

Five ways to connect, named as they appear in the app:

### Connect OpenRouter

Sign in, no copying: Spenti opens OpenRouter in your browser, you tap Authorize, and you come straight back. One account, many AIs.

### Google Gemini

Free with a Google account. On Google’s free plan, Google may use what you send to improve its products, and people may read it.

### ChatGPT (OpenAI)

Use your OpenAI account.

### Claude (Anthropic)

Use your Anthropic account.

### Other service

Any service that works like ChatGPT’s (OpenAI-compatible), even your own: you enter its address and model ID. That includes a server you run yourself, such as vLLM, LM Studio or Ollama, on your own computer or network; then receipt text goes to your machine and nowhere else.

Claude and Gemini may not be available in Myanmar. If a service is not available where you are, OpenRouter is another way in, or keep reading on this phone.

§ 03

## What goes, what stays

Goes, only while it is on

- The text read from each receipt you scan
- Your chat questions, with the totals needed to answer them
- Straight from your phone to the service you connected, under your account

Stays on your phone

- Your photos: each receipt is read into text on the phone first
- Your other receipts, budget and backups
- Your bank messages
- Your key
- And nothing ever goes to a Spenti server

A photo that is not a receipt is skipped on the phone before anything is sent.

§ 04

## Your key

If you paste a key, it is kept in your phone’s secure keychain, not in Spenti’s settings. It is left out of backups, never written to a log and never sent to Spenti. Spenti checks it with one tiny test before saving anything. With OpenRouter there is no key to copy at all.

Remove the service in Settings and Spenti forgets the key. The key still works in your provider account until you delete it there.

§ 05

## What it costs

Your provider bills your account under its own pricing. Spenti charges nothing extra on top of Pro. Before you connect, the app shows an estimate for each service of how many receipts a dollar covers, and Settings counts the receipts and questions you have sent this month, so you can keep an eye on your bill.

§ 06

## Chat in your language

The on-device chat reads English and Thai. In the app’s other ten languages it offers suggested questions in your language and answers them in it. With your own AI, you can ask anything in any language your provider understands, such as Burmese, Indonesian, Malay, Filipino, Chinese, Korean or Japanese.

§ 07

## “Read by your AI”, and nothing falls back silently

Every receipt your AI read carries a small **Read by your AI** tag on its detail page, so you always know which reader filed it.

Nothing falls back silently. If your AI is offline or does not answer and this phone’s reader is installed, the phone reads the receipt and says so. If the reader is not installed, the scan stops and tells you why: Spenti never starts a download by itself. A rejected key or an account with no credit stops the scan with a plain message. If Pro ends, this phone reads your receipts again and your connection is kept for when Pro is back.

§ 08

## Questions

### Does Spenti see my key or my receipts?

No. The key stays in your phone’s keychain, and requests go straight from your phone to your provider. Spenti has no server in that path.

### Can I turn it off?

Yes, any time: Settings › Scanning & AI › AI › On this phone. The on-device models take over again.

### Does it send my photos or bank messages?

No. Only the text read from your receipts and your chat questions go to the service you connected. Photos and bank messages stay on the phone.

### Is it more accurate than the on-device reader?

We have not measured that yet, so we make no accuracy claim. Whichever reader you use, every receipt lands on your board for you to check.

### Do I need Pro?

Yes. On Free or Basic, tapping it shows the plans. Your own AI costs nothing extra on Pro; your provider bills you directly.
