On your phone, in a local database. Optional Pro backup copies it to your own iCloud or Google Drive — never ours. ### Does the AI send anything to OpenAI or Google? No. The models run on your device — scanning and chat work in airplane mode. Nothing is sent to us or to anyone else. ### What happens if I lose my phone? Your data lives on the device, so without a backup it's gone with it. Pro's backup to your own iCloud or Google Drive restores everything on a new phone. ### I can't read Thai. Can I still use it? Yes — that's the point. Manee reads the Thai slip and gives you the merchant, amount and date in English. ### Why is it slow on my phone? Because the AI is running on your phone instead of on a server, speed comes down to your chip. Older and mid-range phones take a few seconds per slip rather than under one, and Low Power Mode slows that down further. Heat does the same: once the phone gets warm the chip throttles itself to cool off, so slips get slower the longer a big run goes — and slower again in the sun or straight off a fast charger. Set it down for a few minutes and the speed comes back. A whole-gallery batch is the heaviest thing Manee does — leave it in the foreground with Low Power Mode off and it will work through hundreds of slips. If a single receipt takes more than about 30 seconds, that's a bug: [tell me](https://manee.app/support/) which phone and I'll look at it. ### Live exchange rates need the internet. Doesn't that break the offline promise? No — scanning, categorising, budgets and chat never need the network, and still work in airplane mode. Manee goes online for five things only: checking for an app or model update, downloading the AI models once after install, your App Store or Google Play purchase, cloud backup if you switch it on, and today's baht–dollar rate — also only if you switch it on, in Settings → Currency. It's off by default, and with it off Manee converts at its own built-in rate. None of them carries a receipt, an amount or anything identifying you — the rate request is the same for every user. Miss the rate and you simply keep the last one you had. ### How accurate is the scanning? Thai bank and PromptPay slips are what the model is fine-tuned for. Paper receipts are good and improving — a wrong field is a one-tap edit.
